What am I WIPing up now?

Yesterday I made 3 lists. One list is books that are finished (at least rough draft any way). The other list is ones that are in various stages of completion. And the third is ideas for books. I was literally amazed at what is going on in my head. All those people demanding my attention. Then I tried to block out the next several months as to what I would work on during that time. My dear husband happened to see what I was doing and said, "What about Mystic's Tale?"

WHAT??!! How could I have left that story out of my WIPs? REALLY??

I often wonder, will I ever have enough lifetime to finish all the books I have planned? I guess, it's just gonna be one book at a time. So with that in mind, here is my list of WIPs:

FINISHED
Identity-PUBLISHED!!!

Soulfire-A Book of Mormon novel
Accepted by Walnut Springs

The Penny Project

Mystic's Tale-YA Urban Fantasy
Book 1

Disclaimer about the following finished novel:
The Magic Garden
(That one will never see the light of day. I wrote it over thirty years ago. I've improved so much since then, that book is an embarrassment)

UNFINISHED
Jericho and Lucy-Mystery/Romance

Mystics Journey-YA urban Fantasy
Book 2

Mystic's Quest-YA urban Fantasy
Book 3

Beloved-A Story of Hope-Adult Paranormal

Meg-YA general fiction

(A couple of them I can't think of a real title, not that it matters that much anyway since publishers often have their own ideas about that.)

IDEAS I CAN'T GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Double Identity (Sequel to Identity)

Black Widows-YA horror
(This one is actually hubby's idea. Not sure if I'll write it or not, but it's interesting to think about the possibilities.)

The Eradicator-YA Paranormal

What happens when your best friend thinks you don't belong in society?
Yeah, I can't think of a title for this one either.

Morning Gloria-YA General

Keeper's Field-YA Coming of age

Jesh You Wait
No clue, but I love the title

So, now I have to figure out how I'm going to get all these books finished. I think I have my work cut out for me. Not to mention that ideas just keep coming to me.

How do you keep track of what you want to write? How do you prioritize? I'd love to get your feedback and advice. What should I work on next?

  1. Work on the one that's talking to you the loudest.

  2. What a great idea! I need to make a list, too.

    *opens Word doc*

    Thanks!

  3. Tristi, it's The Penny Project. But I just finished the rough draft about a week ago. I need to let it sit. My problem is I have two that are calling me. Maybe I'll flip a coin. :D

Donna, let me know how you're progressing.

Cindy, how close to finishing are you? Do you have others in various stages? What do you do when you get a flash of inspiration?

  4. I have a notebook that I keep all my ideas and books I want to write and I actually have two manuscripts going at the same time. I am too ADHD to keep to one manuscript until towards the end when I am motivated to finish. So I write a while on one then when I get frustrated or tired of it, I switch to the other manuscript until I have to stop for a while. Just a thought.

  5. I keep a notebook next to my bed because ideas come to me at night, but also when I'm in the shower (and then I have to grab a towel and write them down, or I'll forget).
But, if I'm working on the computer and an idea comes to me, then I just open a word doc and title it "ms--idea" (whatever the idea is). On the doc, I write down everything I can think of about the idea, then save and let it go. Sometimes I never look at them again...but other times, they actually develop into something I love. Happy Writing! : )

  7. My agent asked me to make a list of completed projects, half-finished projects, and stuff I hoped to do. Took me a while and made me realize that yes, I can hardly hope to ever find time to write them all.

Right now, I'm honestly working on the one we both think will sell best.
Once I commit and jump in, the story sucks me in and I'm just as happy writing that as anything else I have going on.
    Best of luck to you!!

  8. I keep a notebook, too. Sometimes I end up with scenes that go into my WIP. Do you guys interview your characters? I'll have to blog about that one some time.

Jolene-yes, writing what sells is a big motivator to what comes next.

  9. I don't usually have that many ideas in my head at a time. I usually work on what I'm working on and then search for the next idea. When I do get an idea, I jot it down to help me remember later. It's usually the ideas that stick with me the most that I will work on after my current project is finished.

  10. Angie...I'm glad I have all these storied in my head. I'm never lonely for companionship. If one of the characters get mad at me, I can put her away until she's ready to play nice. Now if they all stop talking to me, I call that writer's block. :D

  11. What a great idea to make a list and know where you are and where you're headed. You are an inspiration. Congrats again on Identity!

  12. Thanks Joan. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be published. Do you remember what I said to you when you asked me if I wanted to see your book??

  13. You are so inspiring. All of those sound amazing. I've written three books, but I have a few outlines I'd like to turn into manuscripts. It's so hard knowing which ones to run with. ;)
